Besides being a professional camera operator and field producer, Kurt Howard is the resident
Whitetail guru for the Explorer's Big Game Journal. Growing up
amongst the Big Bucks of Kansas helped to mold his success in the field
into an all consuming passion for the outdoors. New challenges fire
Kurt's drive to succeed and an overwhelming passion for screaming
Bull Elk drove him to relocate to Idaho to better hone his Elk Hunting
skills. His success on public land bulls is proof that he definitely has
what it takes. Kurt has harvested numerous Pope and Young animals
but refuses to list them in the books. He says “hunting shouldn't be
about the record books, it should be about the challenge and personal
fulfillment of the hunt itself”. It's a philosophy shared by all the
members of the Explorer's Big Game Journal team.

In an area with an average success rate of only 15%, Rex Summerfield has
become a stand out with his consistent success rate of well over 80% on hard hunted
public land Elk. His success with Idaho's deep timber Whitetails is even higher. “I
live for the next open season” Rex says, and with Idaho's liberal hunting seasons for
Bear, Deer, Elk, Moose and Antelope he doesn't have much down time. His law
enforcement career has earned him a reputation for honesty and integrity and he
brings it to the table on each episode of the Explorers Big Game Journal. As a
talented writer, professional camera man, field producer and editor, Rex's skills
complete a well rounded list of competent team members on the Explorers Big Game
Journal.

Byron Barfield grew up among the good Ol' boys of the south east

and began shooting his “stick” bow over 40 years ago. He quickly
developed an uncanny knack for hitting small objects in the air.
His notoriety grew and groups, schools and sport show organizers
began to request shooting exhibitions. Its something he has done on
and off for the last 20 years. Byron is also an accomplished hunter
having taken big game animals across the US and around the world.
He said being charged by an angry five ton elephant while wielding
only a traditional longbow was one of the most memorable hunts of his life. He continues to have a heart for youth and plans to do more work with the schools in order to promote the sport he loves so much.

Rockie Jacobsen,  brings his Elk Calling expertise to the Explorer's
Big Game Journal. Rockie is the owner of Bugling Bull Game Call Company
and the inventor of the “Palate Plate” diaphragm call. He won the 2007
Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation's World Championship Calling Contest,
making him a three time World Champion Elk caller in the Pro division. His
calling skill and notoriety bring a flood of requests for seminars each year
and he commonly gives 20 to 30 separate Elk Calling seminars each summer.
He uses his prominence and takes advantage of the captive audiences at his
seminars to promote sponsor products in front of hundreds of western hunters.
He also sells a complete line of instructional DVD's where he passes on the tips and secrets that have allowed him to shoot over 50 public land Bulls.
